LOAD, 213, Day 19: Bounce, Bounce, Bounce

Today's challenge was to scrapbook an Eeyore or a Tigger in your life.  Since I am Eeyore, I decided to scrap about a Tigger and when thinking about this, I thought about all of the energy all of my kids have.  They definitely are bouncing, bouncing, bouncing.  As I was going through pictures looking for one to scrap about for this theme, I happened upon this picture of MNP.  He's definitely a Tigger.  He's almost bouncing right out of this picture.

LOAD, 213, Day 18, Delicious Mistake

Today, we were challenged to create a layout about a mistake that turned out to be good.  I chose to scrap about a mistake I made with Christmas cookies.  I used the ginger cookie dough for the Hershey Kiss cookies.  It turned out okay, though.  Everyone loved the combination and I ended up making them again three years in a row.

The photo for this layout is from www.itsfordinner.com  I don't have any pictures of the actual cookies I made.  Shocking, I know!  But there was a time in my life that I wasn't the camera obsessed person I am now.

Today's challenge was to scrapbook a sound.  I chose to scrapbook about my mother's love for the sound of the ocean.  I used a picture I took at LBI in November of 2011 to document how my mother loved to go to the ocean on the off season, get a room directly on the beach and then she'd leave the doors open but have the heat turned up so she wouldn't freeze - just to hear the sound of the ocean.

LOAD, 213, Day 14, You Are My Home

Today's challenge was to scrap what is home to you and this is quite interesting that this prompt should show up now as a few weeks ago when I flew home from Calgary, Stew picked me up from the airport and I told him, "I'm home now that I'm with you."  So, I immediately knew what to scrap about when Lain talked about this prompt.

LOAD, 213, Day 11, Eat Your Vegetables

Today's prompt was a lesson that you learned in adulthood.  I struggled with this prompt a lot and I really don't know why.  I've learned a lot of stuff, but to put those huge things on a scrapbook page just wasn't working.  So I decided to scrap that even though when you're a kid you say, I can't wait until I'm an adult so I don't have to eat my vegetables, you get older and find out that you do have to eat your vegetables and they might actually taste pretty good.

LOAD, 213, Day 12, Always With Me

Today's challenge was to scrap something you did for love.  I chose to scrapbook about my tattoo which is something I've not scrapped before.  I've had the idea of getting a tattoo for a long time and I knew for all of that time exactly what I was going to get.  I have a stack of cards my mother had given me over the years and her unique handwriting is what I wanted to have as my tattoo.  So, Steve and I went to the tattoo place in March of 2011 and we both got the same tattoo.  Mom's handwritten words "Love, Mom."  I said to the artist that it was probably my first and last.  He said that it doesn't work like that, but for me, it probably does.  Maybe if I have kids, there will be something of so permanent importance in my life that I'll want to have it forever etched onto me, but maybe not.  I don't know.  For now, this is my one and only.  A lot of people following my getting the tattoo said that my mom would be so touched.  That's funny to me, because she wouldn't be.  She would have asked, "What the hell were you thinking?"  All I can say is, I love you, Mom, and I want you with me always.

LOAD, 213, Day 10, Eating Healthy

The challenge today was to scrap what represents you now.The first thing that came to mind while listening to the prompt this morning was our intention on getting healthy and where that has had the most impact on our lives now.

(Again used the digital software.  Again still have so much to learn.)

LOAD, 213, Day 9, Childhood Allegiances

Today's prompt was to scrapbook something about you that started in childhood.  Since I get asked the question all of the time about why I'm a Steelers fan living in Baltimore, I thought I'd take today's prompt and use the fact that my allegiance to the Steelers began in my childhood when the Colts left Baltimore.

(Another digital page - using the Scrapbook software - still much learning to do - like proofreading.)

LOAD, 213, Day 8, Remember

The challenge today was to scrapbook a scent.  The journaling says it all.

This is the first time I've ever done a layout digitally.  I don't like it as much as playing with my paper and glue.  I used Scrapbook Factory's software to create this layout.  I should go back and fix the typos in the journaling, but that's the way I typed it and created it, so I'm just going to leave it that way.

Valentine's Day Cards

I try to make cards for my kids for every holiday.  Sometimes I'm successful, other times I'm not.  This year for Valentine's Day, I didn't get the cards mailed until after Valentine's Day - but they were done, so I figured I'd send them out anyway.

I started with these vellum bags from Two Peas in a Bucket (I'm not sure of the manufacturer) and I adhered these print and cut designs from the Silhouette store that were monkey themed to the bag.  (Come on, nothing says Aunt Gina like monkeys.)

I punched tags out with a paper punch, stamped hugs and kisses on the tag and signed them.  I then stapled the tag to a lollipop.

Slid the lollipop with the tag into the bag and here's the finished version.

 And the stack of them.

Maybe if I start working on the St. Patty's day cards now, they'll be in the mail on time.  One can hope.

Supplies Used:

Monkey cards: print and cut file from Silhouette store
Stamp: Hampton Arts, Hugs and Kisses
Momento Ink - Rose Bud
Marvy Punch
Envelopes - Two Peas in a Bucket

Scrap Happy, Green Tag Swap

On the Scrap Happy message board, there was a sign up to do a green themed tag swap.  You made three tags that had a green theme and then sent them to other participants.

I received my first tag in the mail on Saturday from Dawn.  Isn't it gorgeous?

Puts the ones I made to shame.  She used flower soft on the bird's nest - how awesome is that.  I've never purchased flower soft, but after seeing this, I might want to get some.

Here are the tags that I made - I went with a St. Patty's theme.

I embossed the bottom of the tags with gold embossing powder.  Just used versamark over the bottom of the tag, added the gold embossing powder and melted it with the heat gun, then I added that green floral lace border to the bottom.  That's from an Anna Griffin kit I purchased a long time ago. Used a border of American Crafts green and gold glitter tape and covered most of that with a Petaloo flower and a wood veneer flag that I stamped Happy St. Patty's on.  I used a luck stamp and gold embossed it, added some shamrocks with some pearls and some jute and that was that.  I hope those that receive them like them.

Supplies I used:

Queen & Co. Pearls - Grass Green
American Crafts Premium Ribbon - Jute
Stamps from Studio G
Versamark
Gold Embossing Powder from Inkadinkado
Green and Gold Glitter Tape from American Crafts
Shamrocks from stash
Tags from Ranger, Inkssentials, #8 size manila tags
Momento Ink in Bamboo Leaves
Studio Calico Wood Veneer Flags
Flowers from Petaloo, Canterbury Rose
Green Felt floral ribbon from Anna Griffin.

LOAD, 213, Day 6: Scrap what you Avoid

For Day 6, Lain challenged us to scrapbook an event or topic that we avoid scrapbooking.  I really don't think I have very many of these, but I do have a stack of photos that are waiting to be scrapped that I almost always pass by in order to scrap something else that has caught my eye.  So today I thought I'd tackle some photos in that stack.  The two on the top were photo booth photos taken of me with my nieces GDH and CEH at a family waterpark last summer.

LOAD 213: Day 5, Scrap someone special

I chose to scrap about my brother Phill today. I scrap a lot about my husband and my feelings for him, but what was missing from my scrapbook is my thoughts on the relationship I have with my brother Phill - so that's who I chose to scrap about today.

Journaling reads:
Phill is my quiet one. He’s strong and steady and always there. He’s the nuts and the bolts; the part that holds the whole together. His support is unwavering, his help given freely. He asks not for thanks or acclaim. He’s in the background, doing his job, providing the glue that keeps everything together. It’s often not noticed as we move through the everyday of our lives, but how lost would we be if this most required part wasn’t there. My relationship with my other brothers is louder, but this one is so meaningful for its quietness. It’s the knowing glance across the room that shows the support when neither of us can find the words to say what’s wrong. It’s the buffer to the craziness of life. I’ve watched him grow from the boy he once was to the man he now is and I’ve admired his resolve, his work ethic, his love for those who touch his heart. He’s a wonderful husband, a superb father, and someone I’m so damn proud to call my brother. He is in so many ways, my role model.

LOAD, 213, Day 4: Scrapbook a Goal

Today's challenge was to scrapbook a goal.  At the beginning of the year, I signed up for Ali Edwards' One Little Word class.  I have had my word picked out since before the first of January arrived, but I have been busy with so many other projects that I hadn't completed the work for the class for January.  When Lain said to scrapbook a goal today, I knew this was a great opportunity to knock out two birds with one stone.  Having my one little word be at the forefront of my mind this year is a goal of mine, so this seemed like the perfect fit.  That's the beauty of LOAD folks - as long as you're creating every day, you're good (though I don't think cards are accepted as entries).

Here are my "layouts" for today.  You'll notice on page 2 a hand drawn self portrait (don't you just envy my artistic ability?).  I plan to replace that with a picture of me holding the word "NOW."  I stopped at Joann's tonight and picked up the letters to decorate - so I'll be substituting my hand drawing rather quickly!

I made the definition card and the card listing the synonyms in Photoshop.  I cut out the 12 card with "now" on them on my Cameo, added some paper behind the negative word, stamped 12 areas of my life I want to work on this year and then added three goals to achieve in that area of my life.  Not quite the assignment as Ali gave it to us, but this is the way that worked for me.  I finished off each card with some washi tape.  I took the letters that were cut out from my cards and placed them in a pseudo-shaker box style sleeve and then slid that in the protector.

The January assignment is done!  YAY!  Now I'm only 4 days behind on the February one.  LOL.  I figure all good things, in time.  I want to do things NOW, but I have to make decisions about what is the most important task to complete NOW.

(No process video for these - I did record me making them, but honestly, I just babbled my way through it and it's rather a mess.  I'll have two process videos for you guys up tomorrow or Wednesday, one will be for the LOAD challenge and one will be for a layout I made this weekend just because!  My project life video will also be posted later this week.)

LOAD 213, Day 3, Ordinary Thing, Taken For Granted

The prompt for today gave me fits.  It was to think of something in your life that makes your life better/happier, yet you take for granted - I thought for awhile, talked it over with Stew, talked it over with Shellie (who said that I should scrap the toilet which I thought was a great and funny idea - I mean, seriously, where would we be without indoor plumbing).

I finally decided to scrap about my phone.

Sometimes I can't find it, most of the time it's not even charged, but one of the items in my life that makes my life happier is my phone.  I capture memories with my camera, document them in apps, connect with friends, find interesting things to try out, keep track of what I have to do and when I have to do it.  I waited a long time to finally bite the bullet and get a smart phone and now, I'm not sure why I waited so long.

The prompt for today was to scrap your perfect day.  The minute the prompt was read, I thought about this picture.  I haven't scrapped a lot of the pictures from our time in Jamaica - I really should get on that - but this one immediately came to mind.  Stew and I were caught on the covered cabana when the rain came.  As the journaling says, "even rain can't damper paradise."

LOAD, 213: Day 1, No Words

The challenge for day one of Load was to create a layout where only the photo and/or the embellishment told the story.  No words on the layout.  Ahhhhhh!  The title and the journaling are more important to me than even the pictures, but I think in the end, I chose the right pictures for this prompt.  EAP and Stew making faces at each other, you can just see the fun that they're having together and no words are really needed to explain it.
