November Series, Layout Rewind, Day 6: Those Cute and Funny Kids

November Series, Layout Rewind, Day 5: A Bit of Exploring and More of Those Kids

 The "at the zoo" border is the first cut file I ever did on the silhouette.  This layout makes me cringe.  Those stickers on the second page.  Sigh and the journaling isn't straight.  I learned from this layout that sometimes you just have to put the memories on paper and let it go.

 

 Love this layout.  Masking using Tim Holtz masks.  Found a way to use that ugly circle paper.  Embossed and inked the dark brown paper in the back.  Used mosaic tiles down the side and chain. 

This layout reminds me of the need for a ribbon iron (which I now thankfully own.)  Otherwise, I like this layout.

 The tired falling off from the title was Stew's idea.

Couldn't believe the number of people who commented on this page and said they liked it.  The teeth came printed on the paper.  Simple page but tells the story.

One of the favorite pages I've ever made.  Love all of the texture and the mix of color and the use of the transparency.

Love this picture of Steve holding a picture of my mom making the same face.  This layout is special because of the memories - the design doesn't matter.

Layout Share: Good Eats

For day one of May 2012 LOAD, the prompt was "good taste."  It took me awhile to settle on what I wanted to do for this prompt.  Food wasn't the first thing that popped into my mind.  I thought about how my brothers had good taste in women (love my sisters!), how I have exceptional taste in men (love my Stewbert) and thought maybe I could incorporate something like that into my layout.  In the end, thinking about what pictures I had readily available, I thought this was the best story to tell.

(I apologize for the quality of the picture.  I was under a deadline to get it posted and didn't have time to set up for a good picture.)

Journaling reads: 

Before I met Stew, I had never tasted Indian food.  In fact, I’ve never been very adventurous when it comes to food.  I know what I like and that’s what I eat; however, when you begin to share a life with another person, being open to things that they like is important and that is how I began to eat Chicken Tikka Masala.  Stew, Steve, and I met some of Stew’s friends one night at an Indian restaurant close to Stew’s work.  The first thing that clued me in that I might like Indian food was the naan.  How incredible tasting it was.  I don’t remember what I ordered for dinner, but I remember liking Stew’s entrée, Chicken Tikka Masala, much better than mine and I remember eating a lot of bread.  Knowing how much Stew liked this dish, I decided one night to make it for him.  The first recipe I used wasn’t Chicken Tikka Masala – it was Chicken Masala, still good, but not exactly what Stew wanted.  Some more searching led to me finding a recipe I still use today.  I try to make Stew this dish often, though I don’t always make the naan.  The naan is the hard part, but for Stew’s birthday every year, Chicken Tikka Masala with homemade naan is his special meal.  It works out nicely that Steven also likes Indian food so much.  Since we try to celebrate both Stew’s and Steve’s birthdays at the same time, they both agree that this is the go to meal.  A dish I never thought I would eat from a cuisine I had no interest in has become a staple and a part of a family tradition.
